Bye bye Northern Hemisphere

I’ve just been back to Liverpool for a week following the Berlin and Hamburg adventures. Other than sorting through some things that I had left in the house, the week was spend with friends in all corners of the city. I stayed between Huskie and Sara’s house in the financial district, and was out most nights with Huskies old and new, and sticking my head into local haunts to see old colleagues.

Stef and I took a drive to Wales one afternoon to climb up Moel Famau, a hill from which you can see Mt Snowden in the west and Liverpool in the east. There was a glider flying around the hill whilst we were ascending and once at the top it did a pass over so close that we were able to see the pilots returning our frantic waving. Pretty spesh.

Stef was working until late most days, so we waited around for him to finish so that we could have some time. One night Sara and I waited up til 3am to have a wee chill and beer with him when he got back. Gotta buy yourself the time you want.

On my final night Alex held a pizza party in Huskie with friends which was bloody nice. We popped into the city after that for some more drinks and reflections.

I got the bus down to London on Wednesday and went to stay with Toby and Asia, Huskie comrades dedicated readers may remember from the French excursion. They had recently moved to London so that Toby could fulfil his dream of going to drama school. I had decided some weeks before that they were the people I’d be best to spend my last night in the continent with.

The weight of the departure this time hasn’t yet been felt, due to the amount of times I have said goodbye to these people and this city. It will take some time but it will definitely weigh heavy on my heart once I truly realise that it was be some years until I see the people to whom I have become so close over the last few years. But I have faith that the blessings of modern technology will keep me close to my Liverpool family.
